Bertha Castro and the Venice Teen Post

Under the leadership of Bertha Castro, the Beethoven Teen Post (located on Beethoven/Venice Blvd) empowered barrio Chicana/o youth like no other institution in Venice or throughout the Westside.

Bertha Castro mentored many who would become Westside Chicana/o Movement leaders during the 1970s, and the Teen Post provided the space and resources to plan and organize movimiento activism, including anti-police demonstrations, the 1969 Venice High School Walkouts, and the 1970 Chicano Moratorium against the Vietnam War.
